Local Mission @ FPC
Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are they that mourn, for they shall be comforted.
The world is in distress. The Christ-follower understands distress because he remembers his past and contemplates his current anxiety and fear. He can have compassion for the violence, the hatred, the indifference of others because he has been undone by the merciful Christ, exposing the personal violence and hatred in his own relationships and in his own self. He discovers his spiritual poverty. The great surprise in that poverty is a further discovery and deeper contact with the Imago Dei, a yearning to be reunited with God, a longing for all to be reunited. The individual encounters and communes with the God of Love who drives out fear. Poverty of spirit then leads to mourning, a deep concern for the local and global community, an authentic concern that leads to humble action. This is the esprit de corps of Local Mission and the impetus for compassionate engagement.
There are many opportunities to be involved, and we are always eager to hear from those who seek to express the love of Christ, whether by word or deed, through the unique passion and skill of the individual. Inquiries can be made to Jeff Evans,
